All right, Here we go, everybody. Welcome to another episode of Build a business with Brandon. I’m your host, Brandon White. And we have a, well, an expert here today.
Brandon:
I am so excited. Been waiting for weeks with Jessica Marrero. I got that right. Right. Jessica, thank you so much for coming. I know it’s a Saturday and you’ve got kids and think, think really for your husband. He helped us out.
Brandon:
And, I’ve been super excited because I have done affiliate marketing, Jessica, as you know, but I have not really done a true MLM. And Jessica has done three of these and really hit it out of the park. before. So it’s gonna be It’s gonna be really look huge learning experience for me. And here’s another thing for the listeners Jessica and I actually met online. We have not ever met in person.
Brandon:
but we’ve talked on on the phone many times and we’ve chatted on Facebook and we do have some mutual friends.
Brandon:
Jessica serves us in the U. S. Air Force as a reserve and day job works in the government as well, and we have some mutual friends in that space, but it is a small world. But again, Jessica, thank you so much for joining us. So can you. A lot of listeners aren’t going to know what an ML M is.
Brandon:
Merrick lied level marketing or really understand it. So I know listeners. We’re gonna have some experts are listening. We’re gonna want your high percentage tips, which will get Teoh. But could you just lay out the way that you see in NL and and what it is to me, it seems more of a share program is what I call it.
Brandon:
I have always became a customer first before I ever became like a promoter or an affiliate like he said.
Brandon:
It’s kind of similar to an affiliate program.
Jessica:
I just try out the product.
Jessica:
I like it.
Jessica:
I’ll share it. If I think it’s something I might want to pursue assed faras sales, then I’ll join.
Jessica:
But usually I’m a customer first. I’ve never joined the company and was like, I’m not even going to try the product.
Jessica:
I’m just gonna join it and everyone’s gonna join with me because I have no credibility at that point cause I haven’t even tried the product.
Jessica:
So that’s how I kind of I just looking as a share program and a share program is really for listeners where you are selling the product and you get to buy it at wholesale and you build a salesforce underneath you effectively, and you could have someone who introduced you to that product and the revenue get shared up and down.
Jessica:
Yes, it depends on how their compensation plan is.
Brandon:
Some of them, it’s just if they’re above you, they just kind of make money off of what you buy in wholesale.
Brandon:
They they don’t get any piece of your actual retails.
Brandon:
Its well, let’s get into that.
Brandon:
But can you tell us how How did you even get into this?
Brandon:
I mean, you’re in the military.
Brandon:
You’re really busy.
Jessica:
how did at, like, how do you stumble upon element?
Jessica:
You know, multi level marketing opportunity.
Jessica:
This is like I said, like share program.
Jessica:
I see people see people share things online, and if I have an interest in it, then I will, like, reach out and be like, OK, let me try this.
Brandon:
I need this. This is something about first of my 1st 1 was a weight loss company.
Jessica:
And I had just had my first kid. I was still military active duty at that. At that point, I had my first kid. I gained a lot of weight during that pregnancy, and I needed to lose weight. My mom had tried it. She lives in Virginia and she had tried the product and was like, I really like it. I think you’ll like it. Maybe, you know this will help you. So I tried it as a customer.
Jessica:
And if I’m gonna try something and give someone a review, I documents a whole process because they don’t want to just see you sharing stories of other people’s successes. If you’re gonna do network marketing or multi level marketing, you need to use the product needed. Document your results because people who want to buy from you want to see your results and your thoughts on a product. Not just you, sherry. Other people’s stories about this product, cause if you don’t have your own story, it’s gonna be hard to sell it.
Jessica:
And my Yeah, I think that’s a key point, because I think I see a lot of people, even in our Facebook group, and they come in there and, like a I got multi level marketing.
Jessica:
They see Oracle success is that people are having with the new car and go into the conference is.
Jessica:
And what I’ve tried to tell people is You’ve got to be that person, right?
Brandon:
Jessica? I mean, you’ve got to you’ve gotta be. You gotta use that stuff and you’ve got to show how you did it. You just a sales person, at least maybe in off line that works.
Brandon:
But I’ve never found it in 22 years that it works online. That well, right, so the weight loss thing I became a customer, tried it a dropped £85 within a year.
Brandon:
Oh, my God, that’s awesome!
Jessica:
Documented the whole entire process, like before and after pictures.
Jessica:
Measurements.
Brandon:
I did everything, I shared recipes.
Jessica:
It was like a shake mix type day, and they had other products, supplements, snacks, all of that stuff.
Jessica:
And so I joined as a promoter slash seller. Whatever you want, call it to get the product cheaper instead of painful prices of customer.
Jessica:
So that’s usually while a joint company. If I use. If I started a customer and I like it, and I know that if I just joined as a seller, I can get it half off or at a cheaper discount for me alone, that’s that’s enough for me.
Jessica:
I like I don’t like painful price for things. I’m kind of physical, So I joined that one as a seller to get my product cheaper. That was what it was, but I’ve probably lost about £20 before. I I did it as he cellar before I joined us a seller, and so people had already met like when I shared it.
Jessica:
People knew that I had lost weight. He knew it was working, so then they wanted to the hard thing about selling a weight loss product is Yeah, I can share my results.
Jessica:
Yeah, I lost £85 people saw it, but I was disciplined enough to lose it.
Jessica:
Teoh Eat healthy or to lose weight with supplement or with help of supplements or meal replacement shakes.
Jessica:
It’s expensive.
Jessica:
It’s not a cheek thing. So in order for me to be able to sell someone a weight loss kit or a muscle kit to gain muscle, you have to be in the right mind set to do it, cause there’s several people that will spend.
Jessica:
Yeah, I’ll spend $200 for a weight loss kit. That’s a month supply of whatever I need.
Jessica:
But if they’re not disable enough to stick to it, then they’ll just quit and say, Oh, this product doesn’t work.
Jessica:
So weight loss is a little bit harder to sell, even though I had the results and I had the success story because people have to be committed to losing weight and a lot of people get discouraged really easily, and they just quit and then, like, well, this product doesn’t work to me.
Jessica:
I could care less if anybody really bought it.
Jessica:
I shared it. Assured my story, ushered my success, and I got the product at a cheaper price.
Jessica:
Which is where exactly were you sharing this basic Facebook at work?
Jessica:
I mean, there were several military people who needed to lose weight, and several people did.
Brandon:
And it had some people that would take it and was disciplined with it because they had failed PT test.
Jessica:
And if they didn’t lose some weight and get their PT scores up, they were gonna get kicked out.
Jessica:
The military. I had several military Terry people who are usually good with discipline, obviously to buy it and dropped £2030 get 100 on the PT test.
Jessica:
So but you have to be in the mindset technique.
Jessica:
But I did shirt like all of all of my success story was on Facebook, and I knew you were during the night and we you and I talked about this yesterday, day before before, you know, we’re looking about podcast you You don’t do this with some sophisticated crazy camera or some magic.
Jessica:
I don’t know, copywriter.
Jessica:
You were just doing this with your iPhone iPhone and your typewriter basically right.
Brandon:
I mean, you’re type under your keyboard.
Brandon:
That mold I am.
Brandon:
I know that, but yeah, So you’re doing with your keyboard, And you could do this with just your phone.
Brandon:
Would that be fair to say, almost every every Emily Emma been in I have done for my home.
Brandon:
That’s crazy.
Jessica:
Now, when you did the weight loss program, were you getting sales people in that program, you obviously could buy wholesale.
Jessica:
Did they have minimums that you had a buy and things like that?
Brandon:
to stay, I guess.
Brandon:
Like a promoter, you have to have I Have you guys been so long since I did that we had to have?
Jessica:
It’s an X amount of money within so many months to stay an active promoter.
Jessica:
Teoh, keep your promoter status to keep getting your discount.
Jessica:
but I don’t remember what the but it wasn’t a lot. so that’s why I just comes.
Jessica:
I mean, I stuck with that program firm.
Jessica:
I think I was a promoter for two years, but I used the product consistently for two years.
Jessica:
Wow. And And were you recruiting people sales people under you per se in that one. Where was that really? Just your first.
Brandon:
All that have bought as customers for me who had a major success stories. I mean, I helped people lose.
Jessica:
I would say over £500 total between all of my customers. And there’s some of my customers who have really big success stories.
Jessica:
We’re doing the same thing, documenting their process and doing the same thing I was.
Jessica:
And then they had so many people reaching out like, What are you doing? I want to do it. Let’s do it. And she was like, Well, I could make a little extra money off a sharing this and people buying. Then I’ll sign up. This a promoter.
Jessica:
So that’s kind of held. That works. And that’s how you build your downward team. For me, it was never about any of the emblems. It was never about building a team.
Jessica:
I was happy with just my personal sales.
Jessica:
I wasn’t going to sell someone false hope.
Jessica:
I was very transparent about any types of fees or monthly fees or website. These if there was any, I never just was like Oh yes, right.
Jessica:
You should sign up and then they dropped some money and then be like, Well, there’s all this extra stuff that you didn’t tell me because sometimes companies have, like, hidden stuff and then, ah, lot of people don’t tell you about it.
Jessica:
So then everyone’s kind, it’s that’s kind of help People get a bad taste in the mouth about Evelyn’s and but the and you are doing video in pictures and then just little write ups in showing up in your feed to your friends.
Jessica:
Yes, I would.
Jessica:
I would post it on Instagram.
Brandon:
I would post it on Facebook.
Brandon:
also like Thea, a lot of places have, like, buy sell trade groups.
Jessica:
So, like your city. So what? I was in Fort Walton So we’re wanting beach by still trade. You can post anything in there. I would post my before and after picture and say this is a 90 day challenge.
Jessica:

That’s awesome. Now you do the first MLM. You get interested because you see it from my mom.
Brandon:
It’s you have results.
Brandon:
When you have results, you don’t even I don’t even call it advertising, right? You just if you have success, other people want to emulate success.
Brandon:
I mean, that’s really the law of attraction. So you do that now. What happens? Do you decide that? I don’t know my experience and I’ve been on all those shakes in 22 whatever.
Brandon:
And probably longer since I was young doing weightlifting and sports, they really aren’t sustainable.
Brandon:
I mean, no, at some point, in my opinion, it’s not really meant to be something that you have to use for the rest of your life.
Brandon:
It’s not like that.
Brandon:
There’s some people that believe that you don’t drink these shakes every day for the rest of your life.
Brandon:
You’re never going like when you quit. You’re gonna get on this weight. The whole point of the meal replacement shake was too help.
Jessica:
You basically kickstart your weight loss because you know, if the scale is moving, people are like, yeah, they get excited about it.
Jessica:
They’re they’re happy and it basically gives you to form a habit of healthy of a healthy lifestyle.
Jessica:
So, yes, I would use a shake in the morning. I would work out, and then I would use a shake in the afternoon after a workout type thing. But then during the day I’m eating fruits. I’m eating veggies. I’m eating protein.
Jessica:
It sets you up for a like a habit. That was the biggest thing that they would teach us is it takes 21 days to form a habit. So if you can get through and that’s that’s done this for food or you this anything.
Jessica:
If you want to stay consistent with working out, work out for 21 days, then your body is what your body wants. It same thing with eating healthy of you form a habit of eating healthy For 21 days, you’re rewards and likely able to established that lifestyle and live by that lifestyle, because in those 21 days you’ll kick start your metabolism, you’ll kick start your weight loss and people get excited about that, and then they don’t want to go back to the bad habits that they had.
Jessica:
So eventually I was like, I don’t need these Mueller casement shakes anymore.
Jessica:
I still would use some of the separate, like the vitamins and stuff like that, and some of the snacks, like the workout bars and stuff.
Jessica:
But I didn’t need the shakes anymore because I had been on it for so long that I had established that lifestyle and I was basically, like a robot like, Okay, well, this is what I’m gonna have for more for my morning breakfast. I’m gonna have yogurt. I’m gonna have fruit and I’ll have egg whites. And then I would meal prep my meals, and it just stuck.
Jessica:
So yeah, and I found this the same thing. It’s really just getting into that habit. I think some people have seen some people who would get on the shakes and whatnot. They actually get lost initially. So they’ve got to make it through that transition of what I used to eat the shake. Now what am I going to dio? And if you haven’t planned, you’re in trouble. But e think what you’re saying that it does kick start you and the people, it does work it.
Brandon:
I’ve done all those things. I mean, date me a little bit, always to do metrics. And that was like a big, big And maybe it wasn’t him. L am I only I was buying it cause it was like you it was Halsell, and there’s a lot cheaper. And for those businesses that are selling that, that’s their model.
Brandon:
In many ways is they know that the people are gonna buy wholesale, but the margins air so high they’re still making keystone, which is, I mean, 50% right?
Brandon:
Yes, it only if not more.
Brandon:
so you your mom gives you your mom?
Jessica:
She suggested you go through New Year’s. You’re having you. I imagine you had. Sounds like really good sales. Obviously, you’re you have results. You’re you’re not. You’re not doing no paid advertising, right?
Brandon:
No, no.
Brandon:
Is is all organic. And then what happens? You What happens with the next MLM that you go to?
Brandon:
So then I so in the military as a cop, I kind of I live in Florida, so it’s hot, so I never really I guess I could put it this way, like most over when I worked with her for guys.
Jessica:
I mean, it’s a very male populated career field.
Jessica:
They got of a squadron of 500 cops that I was in.
Jessica:
That was me. Each 60 females and we were all spread out.
Jessica:
Different shifts. Two flights and so I just kind of became kind like a tomboy.
Jessica:
Just one of the guys didn’t really wear makeup or anything like that. Then when I switched to the reserves after my 1st 6 year enlistment, I switched reserves.
Jessica:
I decided that well, I got a civilian job and I was like, I need to dress like a girl.
Jessica:
I need to be a girl.
Jessica:
So the biggest thing was me was I started getting into makeup. That was the thing. So I was like, OK, I’m going to make up So I had pretty much Everything I needed is while.
Jessica:
But I was having a really hard time.
Jessica:
This lipstick, because it got everywhere and it’s mirror. It was just a mess. And I was like, I don’t how, when and where this stuff. So I was on Facebook when my friends was talking about this lipstick that doesn’t come off, and she would put it all on. I would watch it, put it on, and then she would put a glass on top of it, insured rubber face, and it wouldn’t go anywhere. And I was like, That’s what I need. So I ordered a couple of color. I have found someone local.
Jessica:
I just went on one of those local buy sell trade groups and was like, Does any Is there any local representatives for this company?
Jessica:
And so, of course, there was a girl not even five miles from my house. So I went through.
Jessica:
At that time, that wasn’t was maybe, like, 20 different colors.
Jessica:
so I just picked a couple of colors.
Jessica:
It was expensive. It was like $55 for one set in that P wist the lipstick color than the gloss that seals and then the remover because you’d have a special remover to take it off.
Jessica:
So for one set, it was like $55 then the colors were like 25 then extra glosses were 20.
Jessica:
So I just ordered one full kit and in one additional color, So I tried it out.
Jessica:
Ah, a little bit of a learning curve. A little bit of different. It’s not your traditional style.
Jessica:
We’re steak and it, but it worked.
Jessica:
And so I went on Facebook, Of course, share program, in my opinion, was like Has anyone? Because at the time no one had really I had been seen anyone that I knew on my personal Facebook that knew about it.
Jessica:
I hadn’t even heard of it until I just happen to see a video pop up.
Jessica:
so I went on my Facebook page.
Jessica:
I’ve been using it for a couple weeks at this point, and I was like, Does anyone have lipstick that can do this? Put it on. And then I did a little test or use. I don’t have it on now, so I can’t smear my face right now, but that it would smear it and then I would drink in the glass, would have no color amid everyone.
Jessica:
I had, like, 60 comments. Where did you get it? I need that. What colors does it come in automatically thinking that I was selling it or that I thought it like Ulta or Sephora. So I got to thinking about it, and I was like, kind of doing the map. Like, what is every single person that commented that they wanted this ball one one set 1 $55 kit, lipstick kit and almost thinking like I was doing the math and I was like I could refer them to the girl.
Jessica:
I bought it too, where I could buy it myself or I could sign up myself.
Jessica:
So I contacted that girl and was like, Hey, I think I want to sell this.
Jessica:
I already like it.
Jessica:
I want to get a cheaper than wholesale.
Jessica:
When I asked her the whole process, she tells me so. I’m like, You know what? I’m gonna sign up. So I signed up.
Jessica:
It wasn’t even. I think it was $55 to join. So like whatever.
Jessica:
And with that you, the more you bought, you have to buy human toward for that for that when you had pretty much had to carry inventory because I didn’t pay for the website that they had at the time because it was like $500 for the website.
Jessica:
And I was like, No, thank you.
Jessica:
I will just, you know, by a little bit of inventory.
Jessica:
So it so basically what I did because I was like, I don’t know exactly what by because I don’t You know what everyone wants.
Jessica:
So basically, I posted all of the available colors and took preorders is what I did.
Jessica:
I was like, It’s pick out a color wanted that way.
Jessica:
I didn’t just go spend ah $1000 on inventory. But then only certain people wanted certain colors and I was stuck.
Jessica:
So I took pre orders. I was like, Take out your color.
Jessica:
Send me your email address. I will send you an invoice, and as soon as it comes in, I will ship it out to you.
Jessica:
So that’s why did I think my first order? I had enough. I placed enough money or ahead enough preorders to wear when I bought the inventory because of the amount of inventory I needed to fulfill those orders, it did grant me the 50% discount, so I made 50% profit off of that.
Jessica:
And were you news shipping and where you should be? Me, your any, like, shipping I had to do the shipping to.
Brandon:
So I sat down again, went on Amazon and found like, wholesale envelopes, all this stuff and, like I charged people shipping as well.
Jessica:
So I basically did the math and made it out to be okay. This is what I need to charge for shipping and handling, cause I have to buy this extra stuff to ship. So it was a little bit more and say, like if I had the website that it would just it would have shipped from the company. But I wasn’t cut. Pay $5 for a website and the website wasn’t very user friendly cause I’ve been to one, and I was like, This does not look like a good website like I don’t like it.
Jessica:
So that’s what I did was I bought inventory and I did that Stay with that company for three years.
Jessica:
What?
Jessica:
One second? Cause I just want to get the mechanics now to take money.
Brandon:
What did you use to accept money from people? Because you have a dependent processing?
Brandon:
Yes. So I downloaded the square at and you could send I can load the inventory, get issue inventory numbers for every single item, and I invoiced through square.
Jessica:
That was the easiest way for me to track everything on your phone on myself.
Jessica:
There you go.
Jessica:
Everything people tell me.
Jessica:
You can tell me all the time.
Jessica:
Jessica.
Brandon:
I’m sure you get the same thing.
Brandon:
Like oh, it’s not working cause I gotta have a bigger computer.
Brandon:
I gotta have this. I gotta have that like No, you actually just pick up your phone right here and now, At some point, it might not scale right, but it But for the most part, you get started.
Brandon:
Everything. Everything I did was from my phone. Except for shipping, I actually had to physically go to the post office and shit.
Jessica:
But other than that, everything was done to my phones. the advertisement we going on there and doing videos, me going and show like I would showcase what came in.
Jessica:
And if I had the extras, I would let you know it.
Jessica:
You know what?
Jessica:
Would you have this class or do you have this color? I need another remover, and it was just easier. And they had a whole I mean, for the longest time, I didn’t even get in.
Jessica:
I would say for the first year, I didn’t even try or even try to sell any of their skin care or their foundation.
Jessica:
Where eyeshadow. I focus only on the lipstick because that’s what I wanted.
Jessica:
I wasn’t even using the other products at that point because I already have What worked for me and all I needed was a lipstick that wouldn’t build over my face, and that’s when I need it.
Jessica:
And that’s kind of how most of my customers felt like that’s all they needed because the makeup industry is so massive where there’s hundreds and thousands of brands.
Jessica:
And that was one like, kind of how things went a little sour for me because my people above me were like, You need to Onley wear this product you cannot you don’t need to be wearing, you know, Jeffery Starr or, you know, Maybelline or Urban Decay makeup you need toe on Lee, where this and I was like I don’t want to only where this I’m not gonna sell something that I don’t like Like So at that point, I was like, You know what?
Jessica:
Out water, the stuff.
Jessica:
I’ll try it ordered it some of the stuff I like, some of it I absolutely did not like.
Jessica:
And so but I would still get backlash from my up line, saying, Well, you’re not being 100% real because you’re not wearing Onley.
Jessica:
This product I was like, That’s impossible.
Jessica:
Not every product is gonna work for every skin type, like everyone is different.
Jessica:
There’s some people that couldn’t wear the lipstick because you just don’t like, you know, women are weird.
Jessica:
We have pH balance and hormones and stuff and some people just And that’s kind of how at the end of my three years, I stopped selling it on Lee, mainly because I had a sour taste, miles at that point from leadership.
Jessica:
But my body, when I got pregnant with my with my second child, But you couldn’t stay on it would just come out.
Jessica:
Not all of my face that it would come off really quickly, But it was because of all the hormones. So it stopped working for me.
Jessica:
Now, can you explain your quick the this whole up line concept? Because you’ll hear people in network marketing. They’re like, Oh, my up line and my dad online. And this that and the other.
Brandon:
So my up line Waas the girl that I signed up under, and then she had But you know, the girl she signed up under, and then the you know, the whole the whole process.
Jessica:
So in this particular company, you’re up line.
Jessica:
Onley makes money off of your wholesale purchases and your down lines wholesale purchases.
Jessica:
So in order for this person to rank up the person about be to write up, I would have to meet some type of amount, so to speak, for mine monthly for her.
Jessica:
If she wanted him to rank that month, I would have to order so much and my down line would have to order so much.
Jessica:
And I That’s when things started to go.
Jessica:
A little South nation like you need to get this person, this person and this person on your first line, meaning that they directly signed up under me to order $750 with the product and then that want their something.
Jessica:
Some of the girls that were directly under me had people under them, and then she’s like and then the people under them needs order $750 or the product.
Jessica:
And I was like, Hold the phone.
Jessica:
I’m not gonna tell anyone Teoh by $750 of it products because that’s a 50% off discount.
Jessica:
So that’s really $1500 worth of retail, I said.
Jessica:
If they can’t move it, I’m not gonna tell them toe order that, and then that’s when my up lines were going behind my back and contacting people on my down line because on your back office page you can see those people’s contact information like their cell phone numbers.
Jessica:
So but so they were text.
Jessica:
She was texting my down line and telling them what they needed to Dio.
Jessica:
And so then my girls were like, Well, I placed $800 with the stuff, but I have been able to move it. I’m like, Why would you buy $100 in the product if you didn’t think you could move it?
Jessica:
And she was like, Well, because this girl’s told me to and I was like, Are you kidding me?
Jessica:
So I was just so that’s what I basically most of my sales for online.
Jessica:
I don’t do well in I was a public, so I didn’t do parties, and that was something My up line.
Jessica:
Plus, you need to do parties.
Jessica:
You need to do parties.
Jessica:
Usually I don’t mean do already I can move my brother my up line.
Jessica:
When I when I went to an event, I had found out, you know, we were talking about I took marketing high school, not like I’m an expert in marketing, but I would think like we would be sitting there at this event and they’re going to release new products at a certain time.
Jessica:
So I was going to get the product at the When you go to these events, if you’re president, you actually get the product.
Jessica:
Well, sorry.
Jessica:
Someone called me.
Jessica:
What you again so excited about this, That you just hit the button?
Jessica:
No.
Jessica:
My personal traders trying to call me, So yeah, so I was like, Okay, well, I’m gonna have this product.
Jessica:
I can showcase it online tonight.
Jessica:
So what I’m gonna do is I’m gonna have an online party.
Jessica:
Not in person part, because obviously I’m in a different state.
Jessica:
I’m gonna do it online party.
Brandon:
I’m going to go live and show my be.
Jessica:
I keep people who like people who wanna have an online part like Basic party, cause a lot of my customers were not local to be because I’ve met so many people through the military, you know, I got people all over, so I would like anyone who wants to sign up and do a Facebook party online.
Jessica:
We’ll get first.
Jessica:
Look at the new products.
Jessica:
And so and then I met my I met this event with all my up lines, and they’re like, such a good idea.
Jessica:
And then I was like him.
Jessica:
Like, I do everything on Facebook pretty much.

And then there Tell me how you know, I just don’t know how you love so much product level, Adams.
Jessica:
Everything I know you guys are trying to rank up on everything in order for them to do that, they have to do the same type of ordinary, like $1500 or retail. So 750 bucks, I’m like, Are you guys just ordering that every months to make your Brinks but not moving?
Jessica:
And they were like, Yeah, and I was like So how much product are you sitting on right now?
Jessica:
And they’re like, I’ll probably a couple 1000.
Jessica:
I mean, they were urging girls to get credit cards, and I was like, No, absolutely not.
Jessica:
Have you?
Jessica:
And I would tell girls who was like, I think I want to do this.
Jessica:
I’m like, OK, if you want to do this and you want to sell this, you have to be open to going on basic lives or, you know, doing so.
Jessica:
I’m not a big person to talk.
Jessica:
I would like they would say, right where you’re strikes.
Jessica:
You would put the lipstick on your hands. And if someone usually it’s a conversation started, like when you’re out in public. If I was at a Sephora buying, like my favorite face cleanser or something. So I’m like, Oh, where you trying live? Six. And like, Oh, not here. This is something different. I would rub it, wouldn’t come across. And even the girls, it’s a horribly Oh, my God. Where did you get that? And I would just get him a card.

All of yet, I wasn’t about doing parties, cause I’m really I get really kind of introverted in the fact is, I don’t like to go around people.
Jessica:
I don’t like to own the weekends.
Jessica:
I don’t leave my house. So on the weekends, I would just sit down. I’m like, Okay, this is what I’m gonna do this weekend. I’m gonna do a video for this. I’m gonna do a video for this. I would focus it if it was products in the company that I liked. I would make it a focus. Okay, so this weekend, we’re gonna focus on skin care, and I would go over like, my skin care routine and all the stuff. And then this weekend, I’m gonna focus on eye shadow. I’m gonna do a bunch of videos with different eye shadow looks and how all these eye shadows first told. And that’s what I would do. I would plan out everything, and I would go live. I would do tutorial. That was like a really big thing is doing a tutorial. go online. I don’t have people like, Oh, I love that. Let me get that. Let me order that. And I mean, that second year between my personal sales and then my commissions off of my down line when they were doing really good.
Jessica:
I think I made 80 grand that year.
Jessica:
That’s extra money.
Brandon:
Yeah, because I was after duty at the time.
Jessica:
Extra money. You’re probably making as much there as you’re making your job.
Brandon:
Yeah, that’s crazy.
Brandon:
But that’s it, you know, you know, just to my account.
Brandon:
I say that some years, and he thinks I don’t think about that. That means you’re making money. Make more. Who cares? Pay more, pay more. So here’s a question for you. Can you explain two questions that I’m thinking of right now?
Brandon:
One is Are you still doing this in your personal feed?
Brandon:
Or did you create a page on Facebook?
Brandon:
Once it got big, that was really big.
Jessica:
You know, there’s so many people that have just a bad taste in their mouth about networking. Oh, it’s a pyramid scheme. Oh, it’s this. Oh, it’s that. So I didn’t want to just constantly put it on my personal page, knowing there was people who didn’t want to see it.
Jessica:
So I made a separate beauty group and was like, This is what I’m gonna do.
Jessica:
And as a cold, mandatory ALS will be here.
Jessica:
Any new product will be here maybe once a week. I would post something business related on my personal page, but that was it.
Jessica:
And it was It was a Facebook group.
Jessica:
It was a Facebook group.
Brandon:
He was a beauty group, and basically, once I created the group and added some content to it. I shared the group on my Facebook and was like, Hey, if you want more information about this product and one amusing and seeing all my makeup tutorials and how Twos and tips and tricks on makeup application go to this group and that’s where we so people would just joined the group. I never blindly added people to the group, cause I know people hate that.
Jessica:
I know I hate being added to groups, especially for network marketing, that I didn’t I want to be in.
Jessica:
Yeah, I hate that.
Jessica:
I think they’ve cracked down on that.
Brandon:
Yes, I guess they have a little bit and it’s just that I still have people.
Jessica:
I was doing so good and sent it in in a Senate in which was the company I was with.
Jessica:
And people would message me from other Cummings. Oh, I think it would be great at this. You should. I was like, I don’t even know you either even know how we’re Facebook friends.
Jessica:
I was like, don’t cold message me about anything.
Jessica:
It was like the worst thing you can do It sets me off.
Jessica:
Not like when I was doing Even so, I had a personal trainer and I lost a bunch of not a bunch of weight.
Jessica:
I lost £15 but I toned and lost body fat and I And he had It wasn’t like a network marketing thing for him.
Jessica:
He’s a personal trainer. He had online program, and he was like anyone. You refer to this program.
Jessica:
Since you’re sharing everything, I will give you a $15 referral like money.
Jessica:
So it wasn’t an MLM.
Jessica:
It wasn’t anything for me to sign up for. He just was like, Hey, if you’ve refer anyone and you know for sure that I went in and signed up online, he said, Just give me the names that you referred and, you know, sign up and else.
Jessica:
And you 15. That was a person.
Jessica:
Yeah. Typical lead lead generation affiliate.
Brandon:
I want to rewind. Just committed. Before we move into the I know you’ve done several. And so you hit it out of the park on this one.
Brandon:
Can you explain? Could you and I have talked about this on the phone and and I still want to understand this gutter? These Facebook parties Like what?
Brandon:
What? What is How does have is a facebook already and you end, You did explain to me, but I need to hear it again, cause I just I want to get a grip on this.
Brandon:
All right? So if I had a person that was out of town and she waas like I really want to like a party when usually, like in home Party would be I would go to that person’s house.
Jessica:
I would bring all of my testers like my they could play with it and they could try it on and all this stuff.
Jessica:
So But if I wasn’t local, but they still wanted to buy for me because I’m their friend and they want to help my business, I would do a face of party so I would create an event on Facebook for this person.
Jessica:
And they would say, like Jennifer’s lit bash or something like that, because it was basically more so for lipstick, not everything else.
Jessica:
And then So she had already been a customer, so she would go on there and I go on and energies myself.
Jessica:
Hey, I’m gonna be your presenter and your hostess, Jennifer, she’s hosting the party.
Jessica:
She wants to share this information with you guys.
Jessica:
And you know, I got that she would take videos. She would go on live and like, Yeah, because like this. And she would show her using it.
Jessica:
And so I would basically create a rewards program. So for her to have a party with me online, I would be like, OK, so if you have X amount of dollars in sales, you will get X amount of dollars in credit, pretty much so she could earn a free lip color.
Jessica:
Or she could earn lots of free lips colors.
Jessica:
Do you know how much the sales were? And so she would invite.
Jessica:
I mean, some of these world would invite 200 people, and I would just go online, show them how to apply it, show him like I would post pictures of all of the different colors that we had. It was like a lip. It was pictures of people wearing it that way. You could kind of see, like how different skin tones would wear it and people would just order. And then we would play games like we do it scavenger hunt or something like that.
Jessica:
Now, is this over several days or just all once?
Jessica:
Usually it was it was like a three day, three day things are usually we start on Friday because most people don’t work on the weekends already.
Brandon:
That’s but I mean, a lot of these.
Jessica:
A lot of people I did party for were stay at home moms, so we would do that.
Jessica:
And then I was getting into the point where it was I would make her.
Jessica:
I would sell almost to the three grand and lipstick on a weekend, which was $1500 for me on a weekend.
Jessica:
And so basically it started becoming a success.
Jessica:
And so, you know, my up line would share with all these people we’d have like Peru.
Jessica:
We would have other Facebook groups just for promoters are distributors, the super’s only and people would post, you know.
Jessica:
Hey, like I went out and I tried this and I got a good response.
Jessica:
So maybe this is something you could use for your business.
Jessica:
So they were one lady, I think, way, way up there.
Jessica:
In the in.
Jessica:
The thing was like, How much are you bringing in on parties?
Jessica:
Is anyone doing parties? And so And we would put me to people with posting amounts and So every time I would post that was like, Well, I had six parties this month and I sold 3000 per party.
Jessica:
So people like how are you doing this? So that’s how I created the social media group Eso.
Jessica:
So that’s how that happened the and in the party, though. Impact cause.
Brandon:
Like, I just have one of these online parties yet and I haven’t been invited any.
Brandon:
So, are you doing several videos a day and then answering your comments?
Brandon:
Some of them were lives.
Brandon:
Some of them were pre recorded, but some of them have guys like I would. It was I had a whole basically, I would sit down before I started doing these and I was like, OK, cause I’ve kind of been to parties Similar not with the same company, but like before, somewhat like a different company.
Jessica:
And I would be invited to one, and I would just go and watch how it kind of unfolded. So I was like, Okay, so I need to when I start this party and she invites all of her friends, I need to introduce myself first so they know who the heck I am.
Jessica:
so it introduced myself and then I would kind of talk about or I would make a post about what the party was. What we’re what we’re talking about throughout this party. What Jennifer is trying to share with you that type of things. And then I would, you know, make post interaction post.
Jessica:
Like if you could kiss any celebrity.
Jessica:
Whoa, intimate. And people would just post just to keep the algorithm of the group going.
Jessica:
Are the event going to keep people engaged and then I would post like, OK, I’m gonna go live tonight at this time to answer any questions and also to show you how to apply this lipstick and how it works.
Jessica:
And so, other than that, that’s pretty much what I would do throughout the day because I was working full time.
Jessica:
I was working at the gun range, is the combat arms instructor.
Jessica:
And so then I would come home when I would shower, and I would do my makeup, everything except for the lipstick. And I would go live at the time I said I was alive and she would, you know, I could invite people that were already and included Usually I would try to keep a list of who’s been interacting throughout the party.
Jessica:
And I would invite those people to that video like, Okay, I’m live. Come join. And I would kind of wait Mean her, me and Jennifer. Jennifer What? Always the watching.
Jessica:
So she would interact with me, and I could talk to her throughout the group are throughout the video.
Jessica:
So and then the everyone once we had a pretty decent audience, you know, 10 15 people I would know again, introduce myself and, you know, talk about the lipstick. I would have my stripes phone, and I would like this is you know, this stuff is working. I’m gonna show you how to apply it. And I would do the video, how to apply it, and I would do this. And then people would just ask all kinds of questions like, Well, how many delight does it come and read? Do you have a blue red? Because that’s a thing.
Jessica:
So are you know how how to get it off. And then I would do a video on how you take it off.
Jessica:
And then, you know, I would explain the pricing and all that stuff. And then sales just came in because, like I said at the time, there’s still nothing really on the market.
Jessica:
Like it.
Jessica:
I just my mice.
Jessica:
It doesn’t work for me at the moment.
Jessica:
Maybe in a couple of years, I’ll try it now.
Jessica:
Were you up front with people like, Hey, Brandon, you’re coming to my party.
Jessica:
We’re gonna talk about lipstick, show you all this stuff about it, and you can buy. Were you up front that they knew that they were coming to a party to buy?
Brandon:
Well, now I would. You know, this is I still treated everything as and we are sharing this problem with you.
Jessica:
You can, you know, join in on this party and participate.
Jessica:
But front say there is no obligation to buy. This is simply a sh me and Jennifer sharing this with you. She’s tried it. She loves that. I love it. I’m gonna show you why you’ll love it.
Jessica:
And if this something you’re interested in, feel free to buy it, it’s not Enjoy the party.
Jessica:
There was no pressure for anyone to buy anything.
Jessica:
I never, never pressured anyone about anything way. Just because I don’t like feeling pressure to buy something.
Jessica:
Because if you say, like, if I would have came out and said, Hey, welcome to this party.
Jessica:
you should buy this or you need to buy this.
Jessica:
I would not participate. Party. I would leave. I would leave the event immediately taken.
Jessica:
If there’s an obligation for me to even be in this party that I need to buy or that I have to buy or I’m expected to buy something, I will leave. Oh, but not going.
Jessica:
I would accept the party.
Jessica:
So Ferguson, not everyone’s gonna like everything.
Jessica:
Some people like this is too much.
Jessica:
This is too much of a process. You have to apply three layers.
Jessica:
No, no, I mean, some people was like, No, thanks.
Jessica:
Okay.
Jessica:
Next. I never took anything personally.
Jessica:
Well, that’s good. That’s good advice, though.
Brandon:
Yeah, because us. And that’s what I think people need to realize when they join. If you decide to join a MLM is be prepared to hear the word.
Jessica:
No, because you’re gonna get it a lot.
Jessica:
It is. You can’t handle the word.
Jessica:
No. In millions. Probably not for you.
Jessica:
We’ll probably business might not be for you true?
Brandon:
I mean, I was trying to count how many times I’ve heard.
Brandon:
No, no, I don’t want it. No, you can’t do it. No, it’s not good. No work, right?
Brandon:
And you just got a like you just said your mindset right there.
Brandon:
As you could see it, it’s no next.
Brandon:
Just Okay, Cool.
Brandon:
You don’t like it next? Next person does.
Jessica:
Eventually, someone will say yes. I mean, you have Teoh. I mean, it’s like with any I mean, it’s been eating the It applies to anything.
Jessica:
I always also say just kind.
Jessica:
There was a temporary opinion based on the data that the person currently has and people don’t sometimes it like Oh, that’s not right.
Brandon:
No, no, it’s true that there several people that told me no, but then came back and said Yes.
Jessica:
Right. And you can’t ignore people that say no, you can’t, But you can keep continually educating them.
Brandon:
And maybe they changed in the last.
Brandon:
Yes.
Brandon:
So OK, let’s, do a little review.
Brandon:
Your mom says, Hey, there’s a weight loss product.
Brandon:
You had just had a child.
Brandon:
You use it.
Brandon:
You have incredible results.
Brandon:
You lost £80 a pack.
Brandon:
You document the whole thing. You start by just putting in your Facebook feed. That’s it. People want it. Then obviously, if they want it, you can sell it. You learn. Ah, shake. You know, I’m off the shake after two years. You then see someone doesn’t come off. Which sounds incredible. Possibly scary to me that you have to. It doesn’t come off. but you start selling that and you just start doing demos. You then create a cage or no, sorry, a group you have people in.
Brandon:
And then you start throwing these parties and you’re making two or $3000 a weekend not leaving your house on your phone.
Brandon:
What happens next?
Brandon:
You You’ve done another MLM, right?
Brandon:
Right. So I kind of got So the the lipstick thing got really big. And what happened? Waas A lot of people who joined with this promise that they were gonna make a ridiculous amount of money and then pressure from their up lines.
Jessica:
And you need to order this.
Jessica:
You need to order this. You need to order, order, order, or order.
Jessica:
And people are stuck with thousands of dollars in product and they can’t move it.
Jessica:
They have no, they cannot move it.
Jessica:
And so what?
Jessica:
They did Waas. They were creating these groups, thinking Little Italy lipstick lip since going out of business pages. And they would just coast this stock at 50% off and people would just say, Well, I’m not gonna pay full price for this lipstick when I can go to this group and find it for 50% off or some people were selling it for $10 apiece, like like ridiculously low because they wanted to get rid of it.
Jessica:
It’s just sitting in their house.
Jessica:
They’ve got thousands of dollars of credit card debt and no one and their their up line was more concerned about themselves and more concerned about these girls placing orders to benefit them and not teaching them how to move the product.
Jessica:
I set a goal to $700 a day in retail, so most of my stuff I bought it the 50% discount level because I knew I could move it and that’s $50 in a profit.
Jessica:
Come and then I would be like some months.
Jessica:
I’d like, you know, let’s shoot for 200 today and I would do everything I could to push it, and I was, And that’s kind of how do I had to set small goals to move and make money?
Jessica:
It was Simeone.
Jessica:
Multiple streams of income, had a regular job.
Jessica:
I had I had.
Jessica:
You know, I am also a veteran, so I have V a disability that comes in my husband’s income.
Jessica:
And then now I got this little side hustle that’s bringing in a pretty decent amount of money a month.
Jessica:
So that’s what I did.
Jessica:
Like I’m always down to make money.
Jessica:
If I know I could make money, I’ll probably do it.
Jessica:
And it may only be temporary. I might do it for a year.
Jessica:
Make $30,000. $30,000 I didn’t have. So that’s kind of how it looked at it. I was looking this up to it. I never really got salty about everything until I got to that lipstick company because the leaders were so hungry from rake and recognition and go into these, you know, making it til, like these trips like the business, like those you can go to Cancun if you you’re your down line and have to you’re basically their down lines.
Jessica:
Get to that point because none of your personal sales your retail sales that you do on your own of going out and doing parties or, you know, going out in public and, you know, approaching people that way, however you want to move it.
Jessica:
None of that mattered for those trips.
Jessica:
It was only the wholesale amount, which means they didn’t get anything from your personal sales.
Jessica:
Just this just the order that you made.
Jessica:
And but they weren’t teaching people how to move it.
Jessica:
So that was kind of like my whole thing is like the market kind of crashed on it cause you got people going out of business and they don’t care what they sell it for because they just want it out of the house.
Jessica:
And so that’s kind of why I got out of it. I was really salty about the leadership being so greedy and only caring about themselves and not actually caring about their deadlines.
Jessica:
Now that could have just been my particular hurt.
Jessica:
You know my particular experience.
Jessica:
I know other people who have great up lines and actually train their girls how to move stuff and that’s I just didn’t have that, Like, my people didn’t tell me my plan didn’t tell me how to move it.
Jessica:
I mean, like I said, I know how network marketing works because I’ve done it.
Jessica:
You share it, you move it. I mean, that type of thing. I didn’t really care if anyone signed up under me because I was making money off my personal sales.
Jessica:
Now, one thing I have a question is, and I’m thinking here cause I’ve gotten time affiliate marketing one of the things that I’ve experienced.
Jessica:
And I think this happens in, you know, young to three out, which we’ll talk about. And the lens is at some point, if you’re gonna be in this business, the filling marking whatever you have got to keep an eye, if this is going to be your side or even your full time thing, if it’s your whole time thing, you better be paying more. Attention is eventually the market will become saturated.
Brandon:
And when it does become saturated and people do have inventory and they start selling at that point in my mind, the game is over.
Brandon:
Yeah, and that’s what it was for me.
Jessica:
I was like, There’s no point of me trying to sell this at full price or full retail of suggested retail because I’m never going to be able to get that anymore because all of these people are getting out and starting these, you know, selling it on Facebook marketplace for $10.
Jessica:
I’m never gonna get $25 for it, So I got out.
Jessica:
Now I still have some.
Jessica:
I still have some that, let’s say, not a lot, but I still have some, that was never open.
Jessica:
That’s just leftover inventory, and I still can’t move it at this point.
Jessica:
Well, if anybody’s listening and they want that taken care a lot, but I still I still have a couple couple tubes, but but nothing yet.
Jessica:
You still came out on top because you’re stuck.
Jessica:
Yeah, I put in the work.
Jessica:
Now it just expect to share a picture or join a MLM, especially with, especially with makeup.
Jessica:
You have to go on face.
Brandon:
You have to put yourself out there.
Jessica:
You have to go live.
Brandon:
You have to show people how to use this, and if you’re shy and you don’t want to get on Facebook live, and there’s no point of view joined.
Jessica:
Just be a customer because you’re only going to be heartbroken.
Jessica:
And I think a lot of girls are just promised.
Jessica:
You can move this.
Jessica:
You can do it.
Jessica:
It’s not for everyone.
Jessica:
Not everyone can do it.
Jessica:
Yeah, that’s not a bad thing.
Jessica:
There’s There’s plenty of other ways to make money online or even offline than than these models.
Jessica:
I mean, if you might not be good, it going live and doing demos, and you might not feel comfortable in front the camera or whatever that is.
Jessica:
And you could go bill websites and still do affiliate marketing.
Brandon:
Or, you know, you can do a paid ad with hate, add sort of campaign or drop shipping or whatever that is, but I think that’s a really good advice that you’ve given for people is, you know, understand what’s involved here and what you’re gonna have to do because there’s that.
Brandon:
There’s the magic is you actually have to sell right, and I don’t think that’s real magic.
Brandon:
I want to talk about, two models and get your opinion on it.
Brandon:
It seems to me what I see and you mention this is that some people in these ML EMS will basically make their business model, that they’re just going to recruit the whole bunch of people below them.
Brandon:
And then what I see them do, is they.
Brandon:
You know, I think things are onto accesses, motivation and ease, ease and execution, and they just want to recruit people, tell him whatever they have to tell him, to get him to sign up, and then their model is like you said these things.
Brandon:
People just don’t buy the product to get the minimum just to recruit these people, but they never they never actually train them right.
Brandon:
And that’s really how you have to watch out for, because that’s that.
Brandon:
Is it fair to say that a lot of people in this in these companies, that’s really their business model?
Brandon:
They’re not going to sell direct.
Brandon:
They’re just going to recruit people all day long.
Brandon:
There’s people that do it.
Brandon:
People who who are really high up in network marketing will jump ship and join another one in just her crew and they’ll get to the top and then those build jump ship, go to another company, do the same thing.
Jessica:
I have seen it so many times.
Jessica:
And that sort of crazy.
Jessica:
Then there’s the model that you had, which is I’m actually going toe learn how to sell this. And if I learned how to sell it, then I can train my down line or they can just copy me, quite frankly, Yeah, that.
Brandon:
And I think the challenge there is is that we have to understand in this in this network marketing space that you’re going to train your down line, you’re up line may or may not train you.
Brandon:
You hope they do, right? But if you’re gonna play in this space, you’re gonna train your down line. And in many ways, your down line becomes your competition, right?
Brandon:
Yeah.
Brandon:
And eventually that hits the tipping point.
Brandon:
And at that point, you better go look for the next thing because your business model is taking care of the sales.
Brandon:
You basically have built a sales organization. And to say that that sales organization Hey, look, this is going to die. Let’s go to the next one.
Brandon:
Yeah, and then you learn how to Ultimately, what I did was I would try to be looking ahead of the curve.
Brandon:
I would learn how to sell it before I told anyone I still do this today.
Brandon:
Then I would drag everybody along. You think that’s a good strategy?
Brandon:
Yes.
Brandon:
So?
Brandon:
OK, you’re doing the parties. The lips skip thing dies cause everybody’s basically stuck singing glory below wholesale.
Brandon:
So what’s the next one that you do and how does that happen?
Brandon:
so then I I thought about it for a while.
Brandon:
It was another makeup.
Jessica:
I’m still technically active because I use it myself.
Jessica:
I would only say, it’s it’s really, In my opinion, it’s really hard to sell makeup when there’s so many companies out there.
Jessica:
I mean, and a lot of people who do network marketing than you join a beauty makeup company.
Jessica:
They really push you to wear that make up in that make up only.
Jessica:
And but I still have other brands and ultimate I like.
Jessica:
So I joined a different company.
Jessica:
It was another makeup company, and the good thing about that was it was against policy to carry inventory.
Jessica:
So that’s what I like because I was like, I’m not doing another one where I have to buy inventory.
Jessica:
So this one, you pay $12 a month website fee and you can do something.
Jessica:
You could do parties.
Jessica:
I could still do a Facebook party and show people how to do it, how to use the makeup and do a tutorial. But then I would just put a website Harding link. They would go and they would. When they checked out, they would click the party link. And then that’s how I got rewards off of the party.
Jessica:
And did you build a down line?
Brandon:
I think only a couple people joined it.
Jessica:
What is that there is that this business is model Teoh actually for you to recruit, Or is it really just a wholesale track?
Brandon:
Shipping?
Brandon:
No. Every MLM, in my opinion, is that is the business model is to have a down line.
Jessica:
I don’t think I’ve ever seen it.
Jessica:
Melon that doesn’t have that as their business model.
Jessica:
It’s It is about multi level as the whole point of it being MLM so.
Jessica:
But this one for me was I just I the mucus reversed, tried to make up, liked it, shared it.
Jessica:
A couple people. I had a bunch. People interested in it.
Jessica:
I didn’t make a huge sum of money off this because I was also pregnant at the time with my second child, and for me it was I just want them money I just wanted at a discount.
Jessica:
At that point, I have it fully goes back into MLM.
Jessica:
But that’s only because I’m so busy with my personal life.
Jessica:
I’m really busy.
Jessica:
And the course my husband’s not thrilled about me joining another one.
Jessica:
So because of that, because the time commitment, because the time commitment I mean I was I was working 10 11 hours at on the gun range and then coming home and doing, you know, taking shower.
Jessica:
But then getting all made up to do an online party or to do a video or to do something a great he definitely appreciated the extra money.
Jessica:
But I was basically working from sunup to sundown and then on the weekends I would usually ship on the weekends.
Brandon:
I would have to, you know, spend all day all the rest of the week after doing videos, packing up orders and then going and shipping and then sending out tracking numbers and you know something happens in the package gets destroyed.
Jessica:
Some not a replacement.
Jessica:
There’s just constant.
Jessica:
And it was so tiring. It was so so. Diary. so I haven’t There’s been, like, maybe two companies. I’ve looked debt and I thought about, But the other one was another beauty.
Jessica:
And I was like, I don’t think I want to do another beauty because it’s just the beauty market in general. A saturate, and it’s just really tiresome because I’m like, I know if I doing another beauty one, I’m gonna have to spend hours on Facebook doing tutorials.
Jessica:
Yeah, how many hours?
Jessica:
Just Jessica.
Jessica:
So that people have an idea.
Jessica:
Would you spend just off the top of your head on average, to, you know, when you were doing three, whatever to $4000 a weekend?
Jessica:
How many hours a week did that take?
Brandon:
I would say close to 8 to 10 hours.
Brandon:
Throughout the week, I spent additional hours on top of my already busy schedule on Facebook on Facebook, doing videos or doing parties posting video, whether it be videos or just posting, and you’ve got probably on I At least I know for me there’s a little bit of getting into the You got to get into this battle rhythm that you’re gonna be checking your phone.
Brandon:
And if you don’t in a decent amount of time, reply.
Jessica:
Yeah, you lose momentum.
Jessica:
Exactly.
Jessica:
Exactly.
Brandon:
I mean, I would be I would do a couple of videos online and then, like in my personal group and then I mean, that would be like, six oclock in the afternoon.
Brandon:
And then I would shut off the video, obviously, and start getting ready for bed, get kids back, and then I would come back and check my phone, and then I would be I’d have, like, 20 messages or 20 comments that I needed to reply to or people saying, Oh, can you swatch this color on your hand for me?
Brandon:
Eso nine oclock at night.
Brandon:
I’m jumping out of bed and going in the year and swiping a number in my PJs, wiping colors on my hands and send in videos to people in my husband’s like, Do you ever stop?
Jessica:
And I was like, I can’t It was to the point where I was.
Jessica:
I was obsessed with my phone.
Jessica:
At that point, I was like, I have to check it constantly.
Jessica:
I have tohave it constantly because I might miss something.
Jessica:
I might miss a sale.
Jessica:
I might miss this.
Jessica:
And if I hadn’t hit my goal for the day, I had I became an obsession. I’m gonna sell $200 a day, so I’m sitting at 160 bucks and somebody wants to buy two colors. There’s my goal.
Jessica:
So I had to, you know, I had to constantly come up with creative ways in different types in a creative posts, creative videos, how I mean, you can only you could only do so many tutorials.
Jessica:
You know, it’s the same thing.
Jessica:
so I just I got so run down, and then the market became so saturated with people get now the business and selling stuff below hosts at wholesale.
Jessica:
I was like, I think I can let it go at this point.
Jessica:
I’m tired of packing up, you know, 50 orders a week and shipping them off another post office was tired of me.
Jessica:
So I’ve been there in our living room.
Jessica:
The, I think, though what’s important that people who are listening who are considering a network marketing or any type of Britain’s that’s going to require sales.
Jessica:
And you want to hit these goals.
Jessica:
You gotta have that.
Brandon:
That hunger you got to be able to say, at 9 30 I’m at 1 60 My goals 200.
Brandon:
I’m gonna whack out another 90 minutes.
Brandon:
whatever.
Brandon:
I gotta dio to hit that goal, and you’ve gotta want it.
Brandon:
It’s not It’s not magic in it, and I certainly it’s not.
Brandon:
You’re going to join the network marketing and you get all these people on the sales are gonna roll in like you’re going to have to if your model is that you’re going to have to If you’re not going to do direct selling, you better be online training people.
Brandon:
Yeah.
Brandon:
How did you do it?
Brandon:
Is that I mean, if you’re not, if you’re not training them correctly than treating them correctly means that in my opinion, you actually have sold it so that you know the problem that you are solving so that you know the right questions to ask or that need to be answered.
Brandon:
Because if you don’t hit those questions in a sales pitch and you don’t know them, it doesn’t matter what you say at some level you got to think about it is I’m working 50 hours a week, my regular job on top of the stuff that needs to be done around the house, plus the additional 8 to 10 hours that I’m putting in to my business from a salesman point.
Brandon:
And then the additional times that was put in talking to my down line, answering all of their questions tell, you know, trying to help them move their product, giving them ideas.
Brandon:
That was additional time.
Brandon:
I don’t I don’t think for that that one year where I made that 80 grand, I don’t think I have any.
Jessica:
I had no be time.
Jessica:
My collection.
Jessica:
My kids were neglected.
Jessica:
That neglected like I just didn’t spend any time with anyone.
Jessica:
It was me and my phone, so I had to come, and that’s kind of why I haven’t gotten into one, because, like now I have two kids, have a dog business, have breaking French bulldogs multiple streams of income.
Jessica:
So you know I have.
Jessica:
I don’t have time for another one.
Jessica:
I don’t have time to sit on my phone for, you know, and I could say, like, I’m really gonna be on my phone for this mini for this long after work.
Jessica:
Oh, hour and 1/2 is the Mex.
Jessica:
I couldn’t even limit that I tried.
Jessica:
Could it?
Jessica:
Because, you know, I might have said I’m gonna be on their posting stuff or answering stuff.
Jessica:
And I’m not gonna answer any messages after seven o’clock.
Jessica:
But, you know, this person just got off work and didn’t see my video until now. So now they have questions. I couldn’t even I didn’t have that type of discipline.
Jessica:
Maybe it’s because I’m a people pleaser.
Jessica:
And so it’s like I couldn’t just leave.
Jessica:
I know looking at Facebook and you see the little messenger app and you got three. You know how hard it is not to hit that button. It’s impossible. I have to answer the messages. I have to open them. I have to read them because that’s gonna bother me and I will lose sleep.
Jessica:
It was it was a disaster.
Jessica:
But I will say this.
Jessica:
I think one of the lessons that you should get one of credit for is that you have self awareness.
Brandon:
Oh, yeah, and and you’ve gotta have self awareness to it and, you know, and it sounds like we’re very much alike.
Brandon:
Probably why we sort of hit it off when we met each other is because I actually know that I have a highly addictive personality and I also want to win show.
Brandon:
So when it comes to that, what I’ve learned over my career is I will just outwork the competition, and I know that that works, so I just keep doing it.
Jessica:
But it’s one of the reasons why I don’t drink, because I I wouldn’t drink in moderation for sure.
Brandon:
It’s not saying that I’m like crazy right and have a beer here.
Brandon:
But it’s just one of those things where as soon as I engage, I’m gonna engage, and it sounds like you you’re the same way.
Brandon:
But having that self awareness, and I think that that’s one of the things you have to have, what whether you go into any business is who you are, what your strengths are and what your weaknesses are so that you understand that just like you did eventually, you’re like, Oh my God, this is getting out.
Brandon:
I made 80 grand, which is a lot of money and really good money, even for the hours that you put in.
Brandon:
But it’s destroying my personal life, right?
Brandon:
So it was resenting me for in a phone and choosing, you know, giving my attention to people on Facebook and customers instead of giving attention to my husband to my kids.
Brandon:
Well, I’m really grateful that you are opening up on vulnerable enough to share that cause.
Brandon:
That’s hard for a lot of people.
Jessica:
So thank you for doing that.
Jessica:
I think it’s a lesson that a lot of listeners will be grateful for is you make a lot of money just to beware, not beware, but understand what you’re going to get into understand what it takes to win in business?
Jessica:
A anything.
Brandon:
So with that in mind, I don’t want to keep you neglecting speaking of your husband and kids.
Brandon:
And I know your husband has ah taking care of the kids while we’re doing this.
Brandon:
So a few more just you last questions. What do you think is the key for being successful in the M.
Brandon:
L m World Network marketing world today on 2020 I think.
Brandon:
Oh, and I’m just gonna add in there so you can keep going is what would be a 33 high percentage tips that you would give people today to be successful in 2020 and network marketing.
Jessica:
Three tips would be be dedicated, but also with that set boundaries for yourself.
Brandon:
Because if you don’t like a sudden, you could be consumed in it.
Jessica:
You know, a lot of people say it’s like a colt Hemel limbs early cold, and this for me, it was I have to win.
Jessica:
So that’s why I have to answer this message.
Jessica:
That could be a sale that could be a big sale.
Jessica:
Or that could be a referral, or this person might want to have a party in the party equals three grand.
Jessica:
You know, that was my whole mindset.
Jessica:
I got obsessed with that.
Jessica:
You have to be so like the one I would definitely say you have to be dedicated.
Jessica:
You have to be willing to put in the work. You’re not gonna join a network marketing or MLM company and just make a $1,000,000 for doing nothing. You have to put in the work. You have to put yourself out there. You have to share your stories. People don’t want to see everyone else. This story, they want to see yours.
Jessica:
So if you were gonna be selling a product, then you need to represent the product.
Jessica:
And people want to see it with you, no matter what it iss to to.
Jessica:
Like I said would be that boundaries.
Jessica:
I couldn’t follow my own boundaries.
Jessica:
So therefore ahead, come out.
Jessica:
But definitely try to set boundaries.
Jessica:
You’re a stay at home, mom, and you want to do network marketing Sent business hours Because you are that you’re a stay at home, Mum. You’re only going to be on your phone until people I’m only gonna be able to be reached from this time to this time.
Jessica:
And I’m not your bill you reached on Sundays.
Jessica:
I won’t answer any questions on Sundays.
Jessica:
I’ll get back to you on Monday. I couldn’t do that like I said have to win.
Jessica:
So But I would definitely say set boundaries. And then my third Teoh would be Don’t take every thing personal, be open to the word no, cause you’re gonna hear it in any business, but especially in the multi level marketing, because a lot of people have a lot of sour taste in their mouth over network marketer.
Jessica:
They automatically assume that it’s a pyramid scheme and whatever you’re selling, it’s junk.
Jessica:
It’s you have used it and you know it works.
Jessica:
Then people are still going to say no.
Jessica:
So don’t look at Noah’s a failure because a lot of people that say no usually come back around a couple weeks.
Jessica:
Couple months could be a year and say, Yeah, okay, I believe you all.
Jessica:
I want to try it.
Jessica:
That would be my my three things because a lot of people get really upset when they heard the word No Onley.
Jessica:
How they don’t watch, They don’t like my product.
Jessica:
They don’t like this. No one believes that. It melon believes in me, and I’m just gonna quit.
Jessica:
You have to have thick skin to be in network marketing.
Jessica:
